Invisible Fillings

Though your fillings are invisible, your beautiful smile is visible!

We can spot your fillings, why don’t you? Transform your dotted smile into dazzling beam with invisible tooth colored fillings. Invisible fillings as the name suggests are not visible when you smile or talk. They are completely unnoticeable as they mimic the natural appearance of the tooth. They exactly match the shade of your teeth without impacting on the esthetics of your smile. Unlike amalgam (metal) fillings, which are visible when you speak and smile, invisible fillings totally go undetectable. Tooth colored fillings unconditionally revamp the glimpse of your smile.

When decay has started in a tooth, it has to be removed, cleaned and filled with a restorative material to stop it from causing further damage to the tooth. Schedule an appointment with your dentist to get a quick screening of your teeth. If there is decay present, dentist would advise a restorative treatment for the particular tooth. The restorative procedure includes preparation of the cavity to expose the decay. Once the entire decay is removed, the cavity is cleaned and restored with a tooth colored filling. The entire procedure for restoration would take around an hour.

Traditionally, metals like silver amalgam, gold etc.were used to fill in a cavity. Though, these metal fillings are well known for their strength, they eventually weakened the tooth structure leading to fractures or cracks in the filling and the tooth. They are more likely to corrode and cause micro leakages from the filling. As they appear contrasting with the tooth color, esthetics is a major setback.People are also concerned about their health as silver amalgam fillings have mercury as one of their constituents which can be hazardous sometimes. All these concerns led to new innovation in the restorative dentistry and tooth colored fillings have come up to help you regain your perfect smile. Tooth colored fillings include composite fillings, glass ionomer fillings and porcelain veneers.

Tooth colored composite fillings:

Composite fillings are the most naturally appearing invisible fillings. Composite fillings are made of glass and plastic like resin particles. They chemically bond to the tooth structure and are very durable. They need a conservative cavityfor restoration, so they retain most of the original strength of the tooth structure. They don’t easily corrode unlike metal fillings. Composite fillings do not contain any toxic constituents; they are harmless. Procedure of composite restoration is relatively simple. After the dentist prepares the cavity, bonding agent is applied which helps in chemical adhesion of composite to the tooth structure. Specific shade of composite is selected to match your tooth color. Composite is then placed in the cavity layer by layer. Each layer is made rigid by passing on a light. Once the entire filling is hardened, it is trimmed and polished to give it an innate look.

Glass ionomer fillings:

Glass ionomer fillings are composed of glass particles and polyacrylic acid. These fillings closely match the tooth color as well. Glass ionomer fillings also constitute fluoride particles which make them anti cariogenic. They are used in severely eroded teeth, small cavities and used as base cement in deeper composite fillings.

Porcelain (Ceramic) Inlays, Onlays and Veneers:

Inlays and Onlays are indirect restorations wherein restorations are fabricated into specific shape and size outside the mouth and then placed in the cavity. This kind of restoration is preferred when more of tooth structure is to be replaced. Traditionally inlays and onlays were made of gold. As the esthetic demand increased, porcelain has replaced gold. Porcelain restorations being similar to tooth color are highly cosmetic.

Porcelain veneers are thin shell like coverings placed on the tooth surfaces. These are used in chipped teeth, discolored teeth, and irregularly positioned teeth to alter their shape, size and color.

Tooth colored fillings as the best cosmetic regimen

Tooth colored fillings are not only used to restore dental health of decayed teeth but also aid to refine your smile. Chipped teeth can be revived with composite filling materials to restore your perfect smile. Any irregularly positioned teeth like rotated teeth and crooked teeth in the line of your smile can be made straighter with composite veneers or porcelain veneers or crowns. Badly stained teeth which keep you low with a dull smile can be made brighter and whiter with composite or porcelain veneers. Minor gaps between the teeth can be closed unnoticeably by filling them with composites.
